PHOTOGRAPHY
GROUP
Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Winnipeg.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Winnipeg Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

I thought we would be walking downtown looking for photos rather than working on technique. Still, it was nice to meet everyone. Would be happy to join a "photo walk" if one is set up.

Whenever I'm in my yard, this English sparrow (house sparrow) perches on this garden hook, turning it's head in small careful arcs, one eye on the soil below and the other on the sky above. It stands like a quiet sentry keeping guard on the garden and surrounding area on a late afternoon.Canon R7 and Canon RF100-400mm lens.400mm F/8 1/1250 sec ISO 1600

We had had a few foggy days and the hoarfrost on the trees was thick and beautiful. This morning was cloudy, like many had been. I was on my way home from an appointment when the clouds started to move off and the loveliest blue sky opened up. I knew I had to go out with the camera and capture that moment. For this shot, I propped my lens ball in the crook of a tree beside my house and was able to get the hoarfrost, the sky and a little patch of the winter snow. The image was captured with

I was on a photo walk at The Forks and hung back from the group for a minute. Turned the corner and saw that old bicycle art installation the one shaped like a big wheel. I stopped dead because when I looked through the circle it perfectly framed downtown: the skyscrapers, a train crossing the high bridge, cars moving underneath. It honestly felt like a window from right here at The Forks straight into what the core of the city could still become. I crouched down, got the rim of the wheel exactl

While out photographing the Humming Birds at the English Gardens in early September, I noticed this fella sitting alone watching all of the activities of other photographers who were also trying to photograph the Humming Birds. I stepped away from everyone to get a better angle of this Monarch Butterfly to capture this image. After downloading the photos to my computer, that was when I noticed how the sun's angle enhanced the details and various shadows on its wings and plant. I was really ha

While out walking around and photographing bees at a community garden I spotted this Cabbage White Butterfly sitting on top of a dandelion flower not realizing at the time there was also Hoverfly sharing the same surface as the butterfly. It created a "David and Goliath" look.

This little guy was spotted by my daughter while we were walking through the gardens. I was in a panic to get a shot but this beautiful hummingbird was enjoying life and hung around for a good 2 minutes getting food, or he was enjoying all the pictures I was taking of him.

This image is a Still Life Composition of "Berries, Wine and Grapes" that I created on a rainy day in my bedroom. I used no fancy Studio Lighting at all. My only light source was a hand-held flashlight that I kept moving rapidly. It was an experiment in Light Painting when I couldn't go outside to shoot.
